We managed to have an excellent week. We were able to bring a good pile of people to church, there were 11 of them, and we have been able to put about 4 baptismal dates. We`ll be finishing off the mission really well. This Sunday, Carlos will be baptized. He is my future missionary… We have put baptismal dates for the firefighter family for the 12th of July. Then, we have Brother F___ for the 20th. (He has recently had a baptismal date, but has delayed it). He has decided to get baptized on his birthday, the 20th of July.
Funny story of the week… I bought some low-quality shoes to last me the rest of the mission (don`t worry, mom.. I don`t need shoes), and they lasted me 2 days and the sole ripped off.. … Well, I was looking for the receipt to return them, and I found it all crumpled up in the original box. I don`t know what I was thinking… or why I did this, but I ironed it to flatten it out. It instantly turned a charcoal black color, and you can`t read it at all. I took this as a private, funny lesson to not buy cheap things. Yeah… it was funny. I`ll show you the receipt when I get back. That`ll be a treasure.
Everyone is getting sick over here. About half of my positive investigators had to stay home for sickness. I got sick last week as well. I think the climate is changing a bit, and this has caused everyone to get allergic. I`m good now, but I lost my voice for a few days.
Things are going well. The area is doing very well. We are finding some positive families, and I hope they can progress.
Well, I love you family. If you want me to figure out the tour guide stuff, I can do it.
Whoa… so I have a nephew… crazy!!!! The only things I could think of when I heard his middle name was the knight`s tale movie, Ulrik von lichtenstein from geldaland.
Hey family, the week was good. We were able to bring the fireman and his wife to church. We`re hoping to get them baptized in July before I hit the big bird. Tonight we have a family night with them at 7oclock. We`ll see what happens.
We had changes last Wednesday. I`m staying here in ____ until the end! I have a new companion. His name is Elder C, and he is from Honduras. I don`t have a picture of him at the moment, but next week I`ll send one your way. He`s a great guy. He`s very patient, obedient, and calm. That`s what I`m talking about. He also knows country music. That`s a wild card. It`s not very often that latinos know country music.
We also had a great miracle this week. There is a catholic family that lives in our ward, the daughter and the uncle are the only members of the LDS church. Recently, one of the sons in the family has been taking interest in the church. He`s 16 years old, and he wants to serve a mission. We taught him twice this week, and he has already accepted a baptismal date for the 29th of June and went to church yesterday. That was a miracle, and we are glad that God could help us find him and open up his heart.
The picture of the family is a family in the ward. They love us, and they give us food every week. We took a picture with them before Elder P___ took off.
Well family. Things are looking good. We are setting a good foundation and finding some good people to teach. It`s going a little slowler than I`d like, but usually the slow things last longer. They are good people, and will make some good converts.
The pastor is getting cold. I don`t think he wants us to visit him anymore. It`s sad to see that he`s not following his revelations and would rather stick with his “nets” and “wealth” like the earlier men that failed to respond to Jesus` call. Yet, everything in the mission teaches me a good lesson. When the Lord commands, we must do it.
I love you family,
I haven`t seen the Pastor alot this week. I can`t really give you much of an update. We`ll see what happens. I`ll go with him this week, and will give you the update.
We managed to bring some good investigators to church. The fireman came for the first time. He loved the church. We had a great class about priesthood power, and the keys of the priesthood. The teacher asked if anybody had questions and he raised his hand and asked, “how fast can somebody get baptized in the church?” Everybodys` heads turned and… well, “that is a very good question.” We went with him later that night with a great priesthood leader and put a date for the 29th of June. It`s not sure yet. He wants to talk with his wife, and we would like to baptize the wife as well… For some reason she left the house early Sunday morning to escape going to church. We`re still not sure what happened there.
We have another boy, he`s about 14 years old, that wants to get baptized this 22nd of June. We went last night to get the mother`s permission and she asked to keep the baptismal record, and she`s going to fill it out with her son. I`d say for sure that it`s going to happen.
With the family of Hector P____ and his wife, they still need to get divorced… yet they are progressing so much. They read the ensign, the book of mormon, the principles of the gospel… they read everything. They talk about getting sealed. They are a great family. I`m glad I could teach and know them, yet I won`t see them get baptized. That doesn`t matter though. By the time he gets baptized, he will be so ready.
Sounds like life in FL is fun. That`ll be good, dad, working the monday after I get home. I`m excited to hit the horse again. I love the mission. We`re doing well. I`m staying very focused and my hopes are very high for things to come.
I love you,
We´re doing well. We have a family, the P___ family that has been attending regularly for the past 5 weeks. I told you before, but his challenge is the divorce. They are the parents of that cute little girl seen in the picture. He is married to another woman, and has to divorce that relationship before he can marry his current wife and get baptized. Obviously, for the moment I won´t see the results, but we´re working on his conversion so when the moment comes he is more than ready. He reads the book of mormon, and has finished 1st nephi. He reads even the pearl of great price. They have been fasting for work… and he´s gone from not having a job to already receiving a promotion in the past 5 weeks. It´s a blessing to see how the gospel really can change a person. It´s easy to baptize. However, it is harder to find people that seek the gospel for wanting to change rather than follow their friends and live the social gospel. Yet, those are the people that always stay active.
About the pastor. I don´t think I´ll see the results while I´m here. Dad, I´ve shared the experience you had with him… and his is pretty similar. When he started reading the book of mormon, he felt uncomfortable with the new names and places and kind of tossed it aside. We explained to him again the book of mormon, and told him of the importance of receiving a spiritual witness. He is recommitted to start over and try again, reading a little every day.I think he finally understands what we´re hinting at, about the restoration about him needing to set aside his church. He wants to know, and be sure, but I´ll think it´ll take a little while for him, unless he really reads alot and seeks the answer.
Other than that, we´re doing well. The mission, as it get close to ending has me feeling this sense of urgency to do all that I can before I go home. I consider it a blessing. It nice to feel an even increased need to work harder and be more diligent as the end of the mission approaches. It´s crazy for me to think that we´ll be in this country together in less that 2 months.
Lately I´ve been studying the teaching of Joseph Smith, a book called a marvelous work and a wonder, and I´m reading the book of mormon again. I´d like to study the new testament one more time, but I don´t know where I´ll find the time for that.
Well, below you will find attached a picture of my new guitar and I. It´s a beaut made from cedar, home made in el salvador with nylon strings. I consider it a nice guitar.
I love you all.
